Defibrillator Servicing & Calibration
At Seal Calibration Ltd, we offer Defibrillator Servicing and Calibration for thousands of defibrillators annually throughout the UK, from the top of Scotland to the coast of Cornwall.
Defibrillators are life-saving devices, and ensuring they are 100% rescue-ready is essential. Last calendar year, 16.3% of the units tested by Seal Calibration Ltd were not rescue-ready. Â Reasons included out-of-date defibrillator pads, depleted batteries, and device malfunction, requiring further investigation.
A Defibrillator Service includes a fully UKAS-traceable calibration to national standards. The procedure is designed to ensure that the defibrillator is perfectly capable of delivering the correct amount of joules to rescue the patient at the time of the service and calibration.
Defibrillator Testing & Maintenance
As part of the Defibrillator Service, we will connect your unit to a Rigel UniPulse defibrillator simulator, which produces a range of simulated heart rhythms. To pass the test, a defibrillator must only administer a shock when appropriate, at the right energy level and voltage (shockable heart rhythm, VF or VT), and not when it is inappropriate.
Following the Service and Calibration, you will receive nationally traceable certification. The service also includes a detailed inspection of the unit to ensure it is fully functional and that the case, screen, buttons, and connections are not damaged.
Additionally, we will perform a battery and pad check to verify the installation date. You will also be automatically enrolled into our reminder system for replacing consumable parts, such as pads and batteries.

Do Defib Pads and Batteries Have an Expiry Date?

What's the Difference Between Automatic & Semi Automatic Defibs?
A Fully Automatic AED will automatically deliver a shock to the patient once it detects a viable heart rhythm, without any human intervention. This device provides clear instructions and will count down before administering the shock. Although fully automatic units take a longer time to work their magic, they relieve you of the responsibility to initiate the shock, as the device does this automatically.
In contrast, a Semi Automatic AED advises you when a shock is necessary, allowing you to deliver the shock by pressing a button. This unit also provides clear instructions, much like the fully automatic AED, indicating when to stand clear and when to push the button. Semi Automatic AEDs give you full control over the device, enabling you to ensure everything is in order beforehand. As a result, you can also achieve a faster time to shock because you initiate the process.
